54 year old Harold Yenne, a hunter from Rock Springs, spent two nights in the wild near the Sweetwater-Fremont county line after he became lost while hunting elk alone on October 7th. Detective Dick Blust with the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office says that Teresa Yenne first reported her husband missing on Saturday morning which resulted in a search involving Sweetwater and Fremont County Search and Rescue, deputies from both those counties' sheriff's departments, a BLM Ranger, the Civil Air Patrol and a chartered helicopter.
Replacement searchers recommenced the operation the next morning and Yenne was spotted on foot by the Sky Aviation pilot about five miles west of his pickup at around 12:30 PM. Blust says the pilot landed, then flew Yenne to an ambulance, which transported him to Lander Regional Hospital in Lander.
Blust hopes hunters will keep in mind the lessons learned from this incident.
According to authorities, Yenne suffered from what appeared to be hypothermia, dehydration, and exhaustion. He was treated at Lander Regional and later released.
