Sex offenders wouldn't be able to live near Wyoming child care facilities under a proposal from a Bridger Valley lawmaker. State law already bars sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of public schools. It was reported Monday that Owen Peterson is proposing that the ban be extended to include child care facilities. The Republican from Mountain View wants state lawmakers to consider the proposal at the upcoming budget session. It will need the support of 2-thirds of lawmakers in order to be introduced. The Wyoming chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union opposes the idea. Executive director Linda Burt said it could make it difficult for offenders to find a place to live in small towns with limited housing.
