A 27-year-old man accused of swiping at a bar owner with a knife is on trial this week in Rawlins. Jorge Mendoza is accused of pulling a knife on the owner Mike Lujan at Mike's "Big City" Bar and Grille in May. Witnesses say Mendoza threw his girlfriend to the ground in the parking lot and was hitting her and Lujan pulled her away from him. However, Mendoza's lawyers say that he was attacked by his girlfriend and that she fell to the ground. They say the bar owner attacked Mendoza while he was trying to get her up. Mendoza was convicted of assault after a fight at the same bar in 2004 and sentenced to six years in prison. He was released to a halfway house after three years.
