Nearly 100 first responders from 10 agencies and departments are receiving special training in preparation for July’s National High School Rodeo in Rock Springs. Detective Dick Blust, Jr. says the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office and County Emergency Management are co-sponsoring the Standardized Awareness / Weapons of Mass Destruction training, taught by Sublette County Emergency Management Director Jim Mitchell for first responders who will be working the rodeo.
Subject matter in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security course encompasses identification of hazardous materials and dealing with chemical agents, biological agents, and explosive devices.
At the July 12-22 event, the top 1,500 National High School Rodeo Association riders from all across the country will be competing in a broad range of timed and rough stock events at the Sweetwater Events Complex, with a day show and night show scheduled for each day. Attendance at each performance is projected to be between 4,000 and 5,000.
