Bear Mountain Complex

The Bear Mountain Complex is comprised of the Seminoe and Ferris wildfires which began on July 21 and July 27, respectively. The complex is located approximately 35 miles northeast of Rawlins, Wyoming, on Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Bureau of Reclamation, state and private lands. Fuels include grass, sagebrush and timber. The 3,682 acre Seminoe fire was started by lightning while the cause of the 2,842 acre Ferris fire remains under investigation. Cooperating agencies include the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Wyoming State Forestry Division.
Demobilization of resources began on July 30, 2012. Management of the complex will transition to a local Type IV incident command team at 10 p.m. on August 1, 2012.
Fire behavior includes smoldering and creeping with occasional single tree torching well within the established fire lines.
The high voltage power lines affected by fire activity will be recharged by the power company later this week.
Steep, rugged and inaccessible terrain has hampered efforts to close the gap in the containment line on the west flank of the complex. Two hotshot crews, two engines and one helicopter are preparing contingency holding lines further out on the flats so that the fire can be confined and contained if it moves westward. Firefighters will continue to monitor and patrol the fire line throughout the summer to ensure that the isolated, interior fire activity stays within the existing perimeter.
No communities or structures are threatened at this time.
The closure on Carbon County Road 351 has been lifted.
