Bureau of Land Management representatives are assessing the damage to wildlife and their habitat due to a wildfire 30 miles northeast of Rawlins. Ferris Fire spokeswoman Lori Hogan said that the officials were mapping the burn area on Wednesday. The land is home to a variety of big game and is a Greater Sage-grouse core area. The fire has been holding steady at about 8,800 acres for several days and is 75% contained. Full containment is expected by Friday. Meanwhile, Yellowstone National Park is reinstating fire restrictions due to the high fire danger there. Starting at noon, charcoal grills will be prohibited in the park, and backcountry fires will be prohibited. Campfires will be allowed only in established fire grates or fire rings in picnic areas or campgrounds.
