Wildfire northeast of Rawlins isn't spreading

The Ferris Fire, about 30 miles northeast of Rawlins, has burned about 8,800 acres and was 67% contained Tuesday. Fire managers say several new fires were started by lighting in the area on Monday night and local firefighters attacked them. No homes are threatened but the land is home to a variety of big game and is a Greater Sage-grouse core area. The cause of the wildfire, which was first reported July 27, remains under investigation.
