State tourism Director Diane Shober has been named "State Tourism Director of the Year" by the U.S. Travel Association's National Council on State Tourism Directors. The award was presented at the Education Seminar for Tourism Organizations in Boston. The award recognizes a tourism director whose leadership has clearly influenced the improvement of a state or territory's travel and tourism profile. The award winner is chosen by fellow state tourism directors from across the country. Shober has served as Wyoming tourism director since 2003. In 2011, Wyoming had 8.3 million overnight visitors resulting in $2.9 billion in direct expenditures.
