Teton project gets sustainable energy ranking

Grand Teton National Park has completed a 28-unit employee housing project in Moose that is being recognized for its sustainable energy. The project earned the "platinum" ranking from Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. LEED is a U.S. Green Building Council certification for sustainable design. The two-bed, two-bath apartments in seven buildings are part of Grand Teton's pledge to reduce 2007 greenhouse gas emissions by 20% before 2020. The units save energy primarily by reducing heating needs. Architect Matt Wallace says that the wall and roof assembly are hyper-insulated. Wallace said cutting heating costs by preventing heat loss makes sense in a climate as cold as the Tetons.
