Wyoming has cut back on snowmobile trail grooming and support staff after seeing revenue from snowmobile registration permits decline in 3 of the last four winters. The Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources Department maintains about 2,000 miles of snowmobile trails. It pays for the maintenance of the trail system mostly with a registration fee charged to snowmobilers. But since the 2006-07 winter, registrations have declined each year except last winter when there was exceptional snowfall throughout the season. Registrations this year are lagging so far. Domenic Bravo of the Division of State Parks, Historic Sites and Trails says out-of-state snowmobilers coming to Wyoming have dropped off markedly. His agency has cut its snowmobile trail budget and is conducting a survey to find out what's behind the decline in snowmobilers.
