The Wyoming State Bar is looking into how Sweetwater County Attorney Brett Johnson handled evidence during a recent murder trial. The evidence involved a letter between the county attorney's office and a witness in which prosecutors agreed to consider the witness' cooperation when settling charges separate against him. The Supreme Court was critical of Johnson for not disclosing the letter although it determined failure to disclose the evidence did not affect the outcome of the trial. The court referred the matter to the State Bar. Johnson told the Rock Springs Rocket-Miner that while the court had questions about "the timing of the release of certain evidence," the defendant received a fair trial. He says he will cooperate with the State Bar and declined further comment.
