The Farson-Eden School was evacuated Thursday when a liquid propane leak was detected. Sweetwater County Detective Dick Blust, Jr. says that Mike Merkley, the Farson-Eden resident deputy, went to the school on a routine patrol visit around 9:30 AM. He found a crowd near the school's front doors which had been opened for ventilation and noticed a strong odor of propane.
The Farson-Eden Fire Department and Farson-Eden Ambulance Service were dispatched to the scene.
Blust says a valve between two of the school’s large propane tanks is believed to have frozen up, causing the leak. The problem was taken care of by the school's propane provider. According to officials, the school will continue to be closed today (Friday), and is expected to reopen Monday.
