A former chief financial officer of the Shepherd of the Valley nursing home in Casper has been sentenced to four to six years in prison for embezzling. A judge also sentenced Perry Vandeventer on Thursday to pay $41,000 in restitution. Vandeventer pleaded guilty in December to obtaining money under false pretenses. The nursing home's leaders blamed his actions for accelerating the facility's financial decline in late 2010.
Vandeventer was accused of submitting bogus receipts to the nursing home for contractors who never did any work and obtaining cash advances for trips he didn't take. He also was accused of using nursing home credit cards to pay for personal expenses including a speeding ticket. Police investigated after an audit turned up financial discrepancies.
