The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Rawlins Field Office is launching a 14-day public scoping period prior to preparing an environmental analysis on a proposal to protect resources and manage public access in Rogers Canyon, approximately 8 miles northwest of Laramie, Wyo., in Albany County.
The Rogers Canyon Resource Protection and Public Access Plan has become necessary due to unauthorized off-highway vehicle (OHV) use, nuisance discharge of firearms, and litter causing damage to public lands and resources. Under consideration is fencing a 1-mile stretch of public land along the south side parallel to Albany County Road 17. The fence would limit access to trails caused by OHVs, while still allowing foot traffic for recreation. The proposed fence would be wildlife friendly, with 3-strands of wire, and a fourth smooth-wire bottom strand which would connect to a current private fence.
In addition, barriers may be installed surrounding a current parking area on public land, also along Albany County Road 17.
A scoping meeting on the proposed plan will be held Tuesday, April 24 from 6-8 p.m. at the Albany County Public Library, 310 S. Eighth Street, Laramie, Wyo. BLM specialists will be available to answer questions.
