The Laramie County Sheriff's Department is investigating the shooting death of an 8-year-old boy in Cheyenne. A sheriff's spokesman says that deputies responded to an emergency in the southern part of the city just before 7 p.m. Saturday and found the boy in a field with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. Investigators say a friend of the victim, also 8, then lead police to a .25-caliber handgun near the body. The sheriff's department is investigating if the boys were playing with the gun or if the companion was directly involved in the shooting. No names have been released.
