Driver of runaway truck killed near Buffalo

A tractor-trailer hauling a load of bentonite jack-knifed and went over a 300-foot embankment near Buffalo, killing the driver. The Wyoming Highway Patrol says the accident Sunday killed 44-year-old Oscar L. Vizcarra, of Lewisville, Texas. Witnesses said the truck's brakes were smoking as Vizcarra drove downhill on U.S. 16, the highway that goes over Powder River Pass. Patrol officials say Vizcarra drove past a runaway truck ramp alongside the highway without pulling off. He was thrown from the truck before it crashed alongside the Clear Creek River. Troopers say that failure to use lower gears might have caused the brakes to overheat.
