An Australian company says it plans to start building uranium mining and processing facilities in northeastern Wyoming this year. Peninsula Energy says the plant near Moorcroft would be able to process up to 3 million pounds of the uranium oxide known as yellowcake each year. Peninsula Energy still needs to get several more key permits before it can begin construction. They include a source material license from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and a mine permit from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality. If construction starts this year, mining would begin in 2013. Two years ago, Peninsula Energy bought maps and drilling reports on the area from Ur-Energy of Littleton, Colo.
