Authorities say a Casper man started a fire in a crowded apartment building hoping to gain his girlfriend's admiration by being the one to put it out. However, authorities say the man fell asleep after setting the fire and only woke up after a neighbor noticed it and beat on his door. Jeff Wayne Oliver is charged with first-degree arson in the April 19 fire that burned one unit in the Casper apartment complex. Authorities estimate there were 18 people at the building at the time. A prosecutor says Oliver lighted the fire because he wanted his girlfriend to pay more attention to him. 47-year-old Oliver made his initial appearance in Natrona County Circuit Court on Monday. A judge set bail at $50,000.
