Serena Baker with the Bureau of Land Management Rawlins Field Office says they are seeking public comment on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for a proposed uranium in situ (in sit-chew) recovery project in Sweetwater County approximately 40 miles northwest of Rawlins.
Erik Molvar, Wildlife Biologist with Biodiversity Conservation Alliance, said in a release that the lands are part of a sage grouse Core Area that has been designated under state policy. Molvar challenges that the density of well sites from the project is higher than the one well pad per square mile permitted for oil and gas under State of Wyoming Executive Order 2011-5. Serena Baker says the BLM plans to review any and all public comments.
The NRC issued Lost Creek ISR, LLC a license in August 2011. WYDEQ issued the project a permit in October 2011. An open house meeting on the project is scheduled for Monday, May 14th from 4-6 p.m. at the Rawlins Field Office located at 1300 N. Third Street in Rawlins. Written comments will also be accepted until June 11th.
