This year's annual spring and summer runoff in Wyoming is looking like a trickle compared to last year. Lee Hackleman of the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Casper says the runoff from the winter mountain snowpack looks like it could hit record lows this year. The NRCS is forecasting that the runoff this year will be 62% of normal. Last year, the runoff hit record highs. Hackleman says he can't recall such a contrast in back-to-back years in his 21 years. Hackleman says reservoirs are higher than normal at this time of year because of left over water from last year and should be able to meet the state's water needs this year. But he says another poor runoff next year would be a huge problem.
