The Green River Police Department (GRPD) is hoping that the reinstatement of the Junior Police Academy program will attract and inspire young people to claim their part as a citizen of the community as well as discover the vital role law enforcement play in securing the safety of all citizens.
GRPD Detective Fred Moczulski says that the one week program will consists of classroom exercises, student activities, and lesson handouts.
“Students who participate in the program will learn patrol and traffic duties, investigation and arrest techniques,” says Moczulski.
The class will be instructed by officers and other specialists who will provide real-life experience and expertise to the students. The best part about the program is that there is no associated cost to attend.
“There’s no fee to participate in this one of a kind program,” says Moczulski.
The Junior Police Academy is designed to change the way young people perceive law enforcement in America. Green River students that participate will develop a deeper appreciation of law enforcement while opening the door to better communication.
Students (ages 12 – 17) living in Green River who have not been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor are eligible to attend. Again, there is no cost to participate.
