The Wyoming Democratic Party is having an increasingly hard time fielding candidates in state legislative races. Out of 15 Wyoming State Senate seats in the Aug. 21 primary election, Democrats are running in only three races while Republicans are running in 14. And out of the 60 state House races, Democrats are running in only 22 while Republicans are running in 57. State Election Director Peggy Nighswonger says the number of Democrats running in legislative races has been dropping for several election cycles. The number of registered Democratic voters in Wyoming also has been falling. There are now just over 47,000 registered Democrats in the state, down from over 60,000 in 2008. The number of registered Republicans, meanwhile, has increased from 137,000 in 2008 to 145,000 today.
