The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is hoping innovative ideas from the public can help the agency as it tries to avoid a future budget crisis. The department will need another $8 million to $10 million beginning Jan. 1, 2015, to operate in the short term. During an introductory video at a public meeting on the topic Thursday, Game and Fish Director Scott Talbott said "the single most important issue" facing the future of wildlife management is the lack of adequate funding for management and conservation programs. Increased management costs, inflation and a drop in the number of hunters and anglers have led wildlife managers to seek out more funding. Among the ideas being offered are wildlife license plates, fees for reselling photographs, a lottery and preference points for residents.
