Wyoming officials have scheduled the first public meeting about the state's plans to take over an investigation of groundwater pollution in the Pavillion area. The Pavillion working group will meet Aug. 2 at the Riverton Holiday Inn. The working group is made up of state and federal officials with participation by Pavillion-area residents who have polluted well water. Wyoming officials and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced last month that Wyoming will take over the 4-year-old pollution study. The pollution occurs in a gas field owned by Encana Oil and Gas. In 2011, the EPA theorized a link between the pollution and the petroleum industry practice of hydraulic fracturing. The EPA now says it doesn't plan to finalize that finding or subject it to independent review.
