Ferris Mountain Fire Has Grown to 1400 Acres

The Ferris Mountain Wildfire has now grown to 1400 acres and is competely under control. The fire, which was started by a lightning strike, is actually being used in a prescribed fire setting since the area that is burning was already slated to be burned at a later time. According to BLM Spokesperson Darwin Schultz, the biggest concern right now is for hunters.

Schultz says the request is mainly for protection and safety.

The fire, which is located about 30 miles north of Rawlins, is expected to burn for several weeks more. The public may see visible smoke and increased activity in the area.
