More than 100 people gathered at the Howard County Courthouse yesterday to take part in the National Day of Prayer.

The people gathered to pray for justice, peace and love throughout the city and the nation. A stage was set up on the east side of the courthouse where worship songs were sung and local pastors and community leaders offered prayers for families, government leaders and our schools. In 1952, a joint resolution by Congress, signed by President Truman, declared an annual, national day of prayer. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of every May and making this year the 61st Year of the event.
