An 8% budget cut would cost the University of Wyoming $15.6 million. The UW Board of Trustees contemplated the figure Thursday after hearing a preliminary report on possible budget cuts for next year. Falling energy revenues prompted Gov. Matt Mead to order state agencies to prepare for 8% budget cuts. While specifics still have to be worked out over the next couple of weeks, UW President Tom Buchanan says an 8% cut would be felt broadly across the campus. However, Buchanan says the university isn't contemplating across-the-board cuts but is looking instead at identifying specific areas for reductions. Trustee David Bostrom says board members need to impress upon the governor and lawmakers what the cuts mean in terms of the university's role of educating Wyoming's college students.
