More than 30 high school sophomores from around the state will come together in Cheyenne this weekend for an annual leadership seminar.
The Wyoming Hugh O’Brien Youth (HOBY) Leadership conference will hold its 2012 event at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyo., June 7-10. HOBY is an international youth leadership program that provides training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences for high school sophomores selected by their schools to attend a local HOBY seminar. The program helps students recognize their leadership talents and apply them in becoming effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community.
The 2012 conference will help students build personal, group, and social leadership skills. This year’s focus is aimed at helping young people learn how they can play a role in reducing hunger and poverty in their communities.
To reinforce the conference’s philanthropic theme, the students will listen to speakers from the local Needs Inc., COMEA House, Salvation Army and Friday Food Bag organizers. On the leadership side, students will listen to motivational speaker Jamie Utt.
