Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead calls an 82,000 acre wildfire in the Laramie Range "very striking." The governor toured the firelines and met with fire officials in Wheatland Monday. Mead noted that Wyoming has a tradition of celebrating the Fourth of July in style but dry conditions make it too dangerous for citizens to discharge fireworks. He said everyone in Wyoming must do "everything possible to prevent fires." He's asking everyone to avoid eth use of fireworks, open fires, or anything else that might cause a spark or flame. He issued a statement Monday saying that there were more than 1,400 firefighters deployed in the state, not counting members of some local and volunteer departments. He said there were 37 aircraft and more than 95 engines deployed in the state, with the number likely to increase.
