Wyoming wildfires force evacuations

Crews faced erratic winds and dry, fire-fueling conditions as they fight three large forest fires that have forced hundreds of evacuations across Wyoming. Firefighters in the Laramie Range are working to protect summer homes and other structures threatened by the Arapahoe Fire. At 82,000 acres, the fire southwest of Wheatland is the largest in the state. It has destroyed an unknown number of structures. A spokesman says there are nearly 600 personnel on the fire lines. Platte County Sheriff Steve Keigley has ordered the evacuation of Cottonwood Park, Friend Park, North Laramie Trailhead and Harris Park. Farther south, the Squirrel Creek Fire, burning on 7,000 acres about 30 miles southwest of Laramie, prompted new evacuations after a storm pushed flames west Monday evening.
