A Rock Springs man was killed in a crash just north of Rock Springs Friday afternoon. Sweetwater County Detective Dick Blust, Jr. says deputies were dispatched to a crash scene on Lioncol Road about three quarters of a mile east of the BLM horse corrals around 4:20 PM on July 6th.
The man claiming his name was “DaMario” was highly uncooperative and provided deputies with false information concerning his true identity. He was taken into custody and charged with Interference with a Peace Officer.
Investigating deputies subsequently confirmed “DaMario” to be Joseph Aaron Damarto, 45, a homeless person wanted by authorities in Hampton, Massachusetts, on a 1998 warrant charging him with Damaging Property.
Haskell said Massachusetts officials were declining to extradite Damarto on his charges there. Keeney was officially declared dead at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs.
Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash. Reyes and Damarto both sustained injuries. They were treated and released at Memorial Hospital in Rock Springs. The investigation into the crash continues.
