According to Sweetwater County Detective Dick Blust, Jr., three handlers and two special search and tracking dogs used by the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office and Sweetwater County Search and Rescue recently completed advanced training and were awarded upgraded certifications.
“Duke,” a Labrador mix, is now certified at the Operational Cadaver Level with Fett as his handler, and at the Level I Trailing Level when teamed with Garris. Claman and “Zach,” his bloodhound, received their Level II Trailing certifications.
During the evaluation phase of the certification, the handler must carry all necessary equipment for themselves and their dog for at least a 24-hour search.
