Disabled vets plan to summit Grand Teton peak

A group of disabled veterans plans to summit the 14,000-foot Grand peak in Grand Teton National Park on Tuesday. The effort is being made to both commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on America and help in their healing process. Vets taking part in the Bright Mountain Paradox Sports 9-11 Veterans Climb have lost limbs in combat, suffered traumatic brain injuries and other injuries. They will be led by a team of guides and experts in adaptive sports, including Mike Kirby, from Jackson, who is a former Army Ranger who did three tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. Kirby lost a foot in a climbing accident and is now a mountain guide in Grand Teton.
