Legislation awaiting Gov. Matt Mead's signature would let drivers use their smartphones to prove they are insured if they are pulled over or involved in a crash. Republican Sen. Charles Scott, of Casper, says that he decided to sponsor the measure after learning many large insurers offer apps that display insurance information. Today, state law requires drivers to show a written form of proof of insurance. Scott says his proposal makes the electronic form good enough. The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America says Wyoming is 1 of 21 states including Colorado that considered the change this year.
