Evanston woman pleads guilty to Medicaid fraud

An Evanston woman has pleaded guilty to defrauding the state Medicaid system of $56,000 by falsely claiming she provided services to children with developmental disabilities. Brenda Murray pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Nancy Freudenthal on Wednesday in Cheyenne. The judge set sentencing for Aug. 14. Both the prosecution and the defense say they expect to recommend that the 52-year-old Murray receive probation. Murray told Freudenthal that she billed the Wyoming Medicaid system for services for disabled children that she didn't provide. The judge told Murray she will have to make restitution. The Wyoming Legislature this year directed the Wyoming Health Department to reform the Medicaid system to save money. Murray's was among three Medicaid fraud cases the Wyoming Attorney General's Office announced in April.
