Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office Detective Dick Blust, Jr. has confirmed that County officials are investigating the death of a Rock Springs man in Flaming Gorge on Sunday. The man was identified as 49 year old Mitch Hunt.
Several bystanders also jumped into the water, but were unable to locate him.
Resuscitation efforts at the shoreline were unsuccessful, and Hunt was transported to Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs, where he was declared dead. Drowning was the probable cause of death, and an autopsy has been scheduled for this week in Loveland, Colorado, as the investigation continues. Authorities said foul play is not suspected.
