Gov. Matt Mead supports the efforts of Republican governors to find state-based solutions to the federal Medicaid program for low-income people. The Republican Governors Association's Public Policy Committee is proposing states be given the flexibility to design their own programs. Their plan was outlined in a report from the committee's health care task force. It would allow states to manage their own programs as long as they meet standards for improving the overall health of people enrolled in Medicaid. Mead said he likes the report because it doesn't impose a cookie-cutter national plan but instead shares some of the best ideas from the states.
