Wyoming Snowpack Rises To 88 Percent of Average

Wyoming's snowpack is improving but levels are still below last year. The Natural Resources Conservation Service in Casper said Tuesday that the average snowpack across the state is 88 percent of average, up from 80 percent a week ago. Wyoming now has two basins with above average readings - the Bighorn and the Powder-Tongue basin. Last year at this time, the statewide average was 120 percent. Wyoming saw record snowpack levels last year. Many rivers and creeks across the state had record or near record flows during spring and early summer runoff. Early season averages go up and down frequently and snowpack measurements don't really become meaningful until the end of January.
