Sunny, warm weather could raise ozone concentrations in Wyoming's Upper Green River Basin. The state issued the warning Monday but said that there was a chance that winds developing ahead of an approaching storm could lessen the threat. The department also issued an ozone warning for the region on Sunday - the first of the season - but ozone levels didn't exceed the EPA's ozone limit of 75 parts per billion. Wintertime ozone in and around the Pinedale Anticline and Jonah gas fields in western Wyoming has become a serious seasonal air quality problem in recent years. Ground-level ozone last winter exceeded the worst days for ozone pollution in major U.S. cities during the summertime. Ozone in Wyoming typically peaks in February and early March and diminishes as snow begins to melt.
