A woman with Utah ties is among past and present members of the U.S. military who have filed a lawsuit in federal court in San Francisco alleging they were sexually assaulted while serving. The 20 men and women claim they were harassed, raped or assaulted and suffered retaliation when they reported the incidents. They include 29-year-old Kelly Alvesteffer Smith, who joined the Army a month after graduating from Wyoming's Green River High School in 2001. The lawsuit says that despite two decades of promised reforms, the military still fosters a culture of sexual harassment and doesn't seriously investigate or punish sexual predators.
