Now that Kids Are Back In School, Drive Safely

The Rock Springs Police Department (RSPD) would like to remind the public that now that kids are back in school, be extra cautious when driving as children walk to and from school. WY State Statute 31-5-602 (b) Right of way in crosswalks, “When traffic-control signals are not in place or not in operation at a school crosswalk, the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian within or entering a school crosswalk at either edge of the roadway by slowing down or stopping.” Drive safely in the school zones, which are marked 20 MPH. The RSPD will increase patrol presence in school zones. Watch for the posted crossing guards and be courteous to them as they help students get to school. Let’s all have a safe school year!
