Gov. Mead Releases Cautious Budget Proposal

Gov. Matt Mead released a cautious budget proposal Thursday, one that invests heavily in local governments, energy and Wyoming's infrastructure. In a conference call with reporters, Mead said he would recommend $168 million for cities, towns and counties, primarily for major maintenance and infrastructure needs. Mead says he believes local government funding is absolutely imperative to Wyoming's future. Mead's proposed budget includes $15 million for landfill remediation, $100 million for highways and roads, $21 million for the Wyoming Wildlife and Natural Resources Trust and nearly $40 million for water projects. The budget includes around $15 million to help entice data and technology companies to the state, and money for school construction projects, from kindergarten up through the state's community colleges and the University of Wyoming.
