Jackson Looks At Banning Plastic Shopping Bags

A member of the Jackson Town Council is proposing to ban plastic shopping bags at grocery and convenience stores. Town Councilor Greg Miles proposed the bag ban at a recent council meeting. Town staff are now looking into how other communities regulate plastic shopping bags ahead of the issue being taken up at a town workshop in January. The Jackson Hole News and Guide reports Teton County recycled 2 ½ tons of plastic bags last year, the equivalent of some 400,000 plastic bags. Jackson Mayor Mark Barron says he supports reusable bags but opposes passing an ordinance to support what he calls a "social agenda."
