A 28-year-old University of Wyoming graduate has made a profession out of taking pictures of wildlife. While that's not unusual in Wyoming, Joe Riis (REES) takes pictures for National Geographic magazine. The job has taken his skills around the world. Riis is known for taking close-up images of rare wildlife in their natural habitat with the use of remote camera traps. He perfected the technique while photographing the pronghorn migration in Wyoming. Riis says he approaches his work as a biologist rather than an artist because his main interest is figuring out where the animals are going to be so he can set up the cameras. He won several awards for science and environmental journalism.
