A contractor has been killed in an accident at a coal mine in the Powder River Basin. State Mine Inspector Terry Adcock says the accident happened around midday Thursday at the North Antelope Rochelle Mine. The coal mine is owned by St. Louis-based Peabody Energy and is one of the largest surface mines in North America. The mine shipped more than 100 million tons of coal last year. Adcock says details of the accident remain sketchy and he's headed to the site to join other investigators there. The victim's identity wasn't immediately available. The accident is at least the fourth workplace death in Wyoming in less than a week after an oilfield explosion killed three workers Monday. Wyoming has one of the nation's highest rates of fatal workplace accidents.
