Ferris Mountain Wildfire Is Growing

The Bureau of Land Management is reporting that the Ferris Mountain wildfire 30 miles north of Rawlins, Wyo. has grown to an estimated 200 acres and is meeting all resource objectives as part of the larger Ferris Mountain prescribed fire project. The BLM continues to keep the fire in check on the south flank of the mountain by backburning with drip torches and other firing devices; however, the fire has spotted over the mountain ridge on the north flank and the BLM expects these spots to grow and spread to the east. The public should expect to see increased fire activity and smoky conditions for the next several days. The BLM cautions the public to avoid the area until mid-week when cooler temperatures and moisture are expected to temper the intensity and growth of the wildfire.
