Washakie Wilderness fire grows to over 10K acres

The Washakie Wilderness wildfire has grown to over 10,000 acres following shifting winds from a passing cold front. The Hardluck Fire grew by almost 4,000 acres Monday after pushed by hot, dry and windy weather over the weekend. The U.S. Forest Service says its smoke will likely be visible Tuesday in Cody, Meeteetse (muh-TEET'-see) and Dubois. It's been allowed to burn since it was started by lightning July 17 since it's in a remote area. It's 1 of several fires burning in northwestern Wyoming. The 200-acre Snake Fire was discovered Monday along the border of Yellowstone National Park and the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Crews are working to protect backcountry cabins from that blaze. Some trails and backcountry campsites have been closed. Near Bondurant, a 400-acre fire is 20% contained.
