Winds of up to 60 mph fanned a wildfire burning on the Wind River Indian Reservation in central Wyoming, and more experienced firefighters are being called in to fight it. The Alpine Lake fire has been burning in a rugged and remote mountain area, but the high winds on Wednesday pushed it so that flames can now be seen along the Wind River Mountain front in the area of Bull Lake Reservoir. The fire started back on Aug. 7 but didn't pose much of a problem as long as it stayed in the wilderness area. Dry, hot, windy weather lately has aided its growth to about 21 square miles. Elsewhere in Wyoming, fires also are burning in the Bighorn and Bridger-Teton national forests.
