UW President Buchanan to retire in 2013

University of Wyoming President Tom Buchanan says he will retire next year. Buchanan announced in his annual state of the university address in Laramie on Thursday that he intends to step down at the end of next summer. Gov. Matt Mead says he appreciates Buchanan's work at the university and his leadership in seeing that UW students continue to receive a high quality education. During his 35-year career at the state's only 4-year public university, the 61-year-old Buchanan held a variety of administrative positions before being named president in 2005. UW trustees President Dave Bostrom says the process of finding a replacement for Buchanan will begin soon and he hopes to see the board begin to make a selection for a new president sometime early next year.
