The risk of new fires starting is high across western Wyoming, including Yellowstone National Park. The National Weather Service says a weak monsoonal moisture flow is expected to bring strong wind gusts and dry lightning Thursday afternoon, making it possible for new fires to start and spread. The fire danger in Yellowstone is rated as extreme following the outbreak of 3 small fires on Tuesday. Charcoal grills and backcountry fires are prohibited in the park because of the fire danger. The Ferris Fire has burned about 8,800 acres 30 miles northeast of Rawlins. Firefighters hope to have it contained by Friday.
